Ireland's CPI edges up

Ireland's December consumer prices index (CPI) went up by 0.2 percent year on year, official figures showed on Thursday. The figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) indicated that the most notable changes in the year were increases in alcoholic beverages and tobacco (+5.7 percent), education (+4.5 percent) and restaurants & hotels (+2.8 percent). The CSO figures also showed there were decreases in clothing & footwear (-4.0 percent), furnishings, household equipment & routine household maintenance (-3.7 percent), communications (-2.4 percent), transport (-1.1 percent) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (-1.1 percent).
