The Kremlin recognizes the European Union’s right to sue Russia at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over sanctions. However, Russia can present its counter arguments, Russian president’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.
“The WTO has a set of measures and instruments which every member state can certainly use. But other countries have the right to present arguments,” Peskov told journalists, adding the practice was in full compliance with international law.
Peskov found it hard to say how probable it was that the European Union would file a lawsuit against Russia.
At the same time, Russia has pledged to use every opportunity to appeal foreign sanctions at WTO. “Russia is a WTO member and can certainly use every opportunity within its framework to appeal (foreign sanctions), defend its stance and argue in favor of its actions,” Russian president’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday.
