BRICS leaders have had a lunch where they were given an opportunity to taste the dishes of Bashkirian national cuisine. The Bashkirs, a Turkic-speaking nationality living in the Urals, have the culinary traditions that expose a rather limited use of spices, big amounts of veal and mutton in many dishes, dried fruit and forest berries, dehydrated cereals, soured dairy product, horse milk, and honey, which their native region of Bashkortostan is famous for.
"All the dishes they were treated to were local, of Russian origin," President Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said. "The menu includes a crayfish tail soup, the Bashkir-style duck, mutton, and fish."
He also said an exhibition of paintings had been organized for the guests.
"These works are very particular and the guests liked them," Peskov said.
