
The Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) , Issa Haider Murad, on Saturday discussed with the Malaysian Ambassador to Jordan Zakri Bin Jaafar ways to develop trade relations with the private sector.
Talks touched upon ways to enhance the volume of trade between Jordan and Malaysia, establishing economic forums and joint promotion of investment, tourism and cultural exchange opportunities.
Murad said Malaysia needs to take advantage of the location of Jordan, as the Kingdom is considered a link for exporting Malaysian palm oil to the Middle East and Africa.
He also talked about possibilities of creating storage containers at the Aqaba port to provide region countries with palm oil.
The Malaysian envoy indicated the importance of increasing the volume of palm oil exported to Jordan as it is one of the most important agricultural and industrial products for his country, noting that his country focuses on the tourism sector and attracting Jordanian tourists.
Separately, Murad met with the South African ambassador, John Davies, and discussed with him ways to develop trade relations between the two countries.
Murad indicated the significant improvement in the trade balance between Jordan and South Africa where the Kingdom's exports jumped from JD11million in 2010 to JD25million in 2014, while imports rose from JD15million to JD21million during the same period
The South African envoy said he will study the investment opportunities in Jordan and called upon the Jordanian private sector to visit South Africa to explore investment opportunities there.
