The UAE Armed forces awarded 10 deals worth Dh6.91 billion on day two of Idex, split evenly between local and international companies.
Russia’s state-owned Rosoboronexport won the biggest deal – a Dh2.6bn contract to supply 5,000 anti-armour missiles, said Brigadier General Rashid Al Shamsi, the official spokesman for Idex.
The second biggest deal of Dh1.79bn went to UAE’s Maximus Air to buy air cargo planes for commercial use.
The third biggest deal was a Dh865.7 million contract awarded to Swedish aerospace and defence company SAAB for G6000 SRSS (Swing Role Surveillance System) aircraft and additional supply of spare parts.
US defence company Raytheon won a Dh611.6m contract for missiles, while UAE-based Trust International Group clinched a Dh553.7m weapons contract.
On day one the UAE Armed Forces announced deals worth Dh4.41bn, taking the two day total to Dh11.33bn.
More than Dh18.3bn of deals were struck in the 2015 event.
A total of 1,235 companies including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and Russia’s Rostec are taking part in the five-day defence expo, a 3 per cent increase on 2015. The number of participating countries has increased by 10 per cent to 57.
More than 100,000 visitors are expected to descend on the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), with the size of the event having expanded by 5 per cent to more than 53,500 square metres.
The last edition in 2015 attracted more than 100,000 visitors.
