Qatar announced Sunday that it will contribute USD one billion for reconstructing Gaza Strip after the devastating Israeli war on the Palestinian people, adding that it has made previous humanitarian and financial contributions.
"A just peace is considered the main pillar to ensure building efforts do not get hammered with repeated destruction of Gaza Strip," Qatari Foreign Minister Dr. Khaled Al-Attiyah said at Cairo International Conference on Palestine and Reconstructing Gaza.
The minister added his country has contributed aggressively to rebuilding Gaza along with international partners since 2012.
For his part, Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigrants Jibran Bassil stressed, in a speech during the conference, on the need to stop Israel from carrying out destruction and violent acts. "Stopping Israeli destruction is more important than the process of reconstruction," he added.
Bassil said that Israeli racist agenda must not stop Palestinians from carrying out their responsibilities towards development and reconstruction, including the establishment of their state on the basis of rule of law and unity, noting that such racism by Israel must not stop Arabs from supporting Palestine.
For his part, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said London would contribute USD 32 million for basic needs and reconstructing efforts to Gaza Strip after the Israeli 50-day war on the Palestinian people.
The Secretary pointed to that the his country supports a two-state solution and the importance of having a Palestinian Authority that is politically independent and financially sufficient, noting that a financial support will not solve the problems alone, but a political solution was essential.
On another front, Greece Deputy Prime Minister Evangelos Venizelos said that his country's contribution amount to EURO one million to reconstruction efforts in Gaza, stressing importance on having financial support for efforts to rebuild the area.
