Works, Municipalities & Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf visited the new Administrative Building Project at the Shura Council, accompanied by the Secretary General for the Shura Council Abdul Jalil Turaif, Shura Council General Engineer Mohammed Isa Al Jowder, Special Projects Engineer Toni Robinson and a number of engineers from the Ministry.
The Minister explained that the 3-storey building covers an area of 5100m2; accommodating 191 employees. Also, 63 shaded parking spaces will be provided as part of the project. Work commenced in January 30, 2014 and is expected to complete by the end of January 2015.
The BD1,810,000 project was awarded to Aradus Contracting, while the engineering consulting works involved in the project were assigned to Diya Tawfeeqi Engineering. The Ministry’s Special Projects Department is supervising implementation of the project.
The Administrative buildings of the project contain a number of offices belonging to directorates such as the General Directorate for the Parliamentary Affairs Aid, the General Assistant Directorate for the Parliamentary & Media Relations, the Assistant General Secretariat for the Human & Financial Resources and Information, and the Legal Advisors Authority.
The Minister also made a second visit to the Administrative Building for the House of Representatives in Gudaibiya, accompanied by the Assistant Undersecretary for Construction Projects & Maintenance Eng. Mona Al Motawa, Construction Projects Director Eng. Wadeea Marzooq and a number of engineers from the Ministry.
According to the Minister, the BD1,542,258 project was awarded to Al Hidaya Contracting, while supervision is done by the Ministry’s Construction Projects Directorate.
The Administrative Building for the House of Representatives comprises of a ground floor and 3 other floors covering a total area of 3232m2. The third level was added upon a request from the House of Representatives.
The ground floor comprises of conference rooms, and a reception area and related facilities. The first and second floors include administrative offices and all related facilities and services. The new building has been connected to the old building using bridges to facilitate movement between the two buildings and also to maintain the architectural design of the existing building. The building is also provided with a water pumping chamber and another chamber for electricity, mechanical and electrical works, security and safety systems and other external works.
Works are now 48% complete. All plastering works on the ground and first floors have been completed. The construction works for the second floor are now near completion, while the mechanical works related to the air conditioning units on the ground and first floors and the external finishing works are currently being completed.
