Amman - Petra

The Lower House on Monday endorsed a number of articles of the amended temporary Money Laundering law as it opened a debate of the new legislation.
Under the amendment, the original "Anti-Money Laundering Law" bill was renamed as the "Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing Law", and some of the articles were also redefined in a bid to conform with the newly approved law.
Some agencies were also added as members to the National Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Committee, such as the Anti-Corruption Commission headed by the Governor of the Central Bank.
Officials said the reasons behind the renaming of the bill and amending some articles were to address emerging issues related to the fight against money laundering and financing terrorism, as well as to increase cooperation applying international standards. The amendment would also enable the government to join international organizations
