The Higher Population Council and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) reiterated their commitment to work with partners to mobilize support and resources to achieve sustainable development.

They said in a joint statement, on the occasion of World Population Day, which coincides with today’s focus on ‘Vulnerable Populations in Emergencies’, that they will seek to improve access to education and health care and to ensure that they reach the people of Jordan and promote healthy lifestyles, mainly among young people.

This year, World Population Day comes at a time when women, children and young people make up more than three-quarters of the population who have been forced to flee their homes because of conflicts and disasters in many countries of the world.

According to the UN, over 60 million people have been displaced by emergencies, most of them women and girls.

Also, the Secretary General of the Higher Population Council , Sawsan Majali, noted that Jordan has been a host country for refugees over the years, indicating the impact of refugees on the country’s development and cited the Syrian influx to Jordan, which stretched Jordan's resources and infrastructure to the limit.

Further, UNFPA Jordan Country Director Dan Baker voiced the Fund's commitment to always work to ensure that women and girls' rights remain a top priority, especially during humanitarian crises, and in order to maintain their dignity and secure their safety, as well as to provide them with early maternity health services.
