Algerian annual rate of inflation up to 1.6% in September

The annual rate of inflation in Algeria rose to 1.6% in past September, after stagnating during the previous months, Office of National Statistics said Monday.
After reaching 2.7% in January 2014, the annual rate of inflation fell sharply to stand at 1.8% in April and at 1.6% in May before stabilizing at 1.5% between June and August.
The consumer prices rose 0.7% in September 2014 compared to August of the same year.
This increase of the monthly rate is mainly due to a 1.2% increase in prices of foodstuffs, generated both by the rising price of fresh agricultural products (+ 2.2%) and those of agro-industrial products (+0.3%) due to an increase of nearly 1% of fats prices.
The evolution of agricultural produces’ prices is driven by soaring prices of fresh fruits (+ 22%), eggs (+ 10.8%), fresh fish (+ 3%), meat of sheep (+ 1.3%), of beef (+ 0.6%) and of chicken (+ 0.2%).
However, the ONS noted a decrease of consumer prices of some foodstuffs in past September in comparison with August.
The decrease concerned potato (-4.6%) and fresh vegetables (-2.6%), according to the Office data.
For the manufactured goods, their prices rose 0.3%, while those of services have stagnated in September.
For the period spanning the first nine months of 2014, consumer prices rose by almost 2% compared to the same period of 2013.
