Aston Martin Lagonda
London - Arab Today
Aston Martin Lagonda London - Arab Today The British supercar company is developing a reimagined modern version of the original sports limousine that made its debut back in 1976. When the Lagonda was launched, it was the most expensive car in the world and one of the most technologically advanced. It had a huge V8 engine, a striking wedge-shaped design and cathode ray tube TVs in the places of a speedometer and odometer. The new car, being developed by Aston Martin's Q division -- the special department charged with building bespoke cars and with customizing vehicles to meet even the most imaginative and demanding owner's needs -- will feature a six-liter V12 engine and will be built on the same platform as the Vanquish and DB9. However, the wheelbase will be significantly longer to ensure that there is plenty of room for rear seat passengers and the car is expected to be produced in extremely small numbers -- as few as 100 examples -- and each will likely come at a sizeable premium of at least £400,000 (€500,000/$700,000). The company has toyed before with reviving the Lagonda nameplate and in 2009 unveiled a Lagonda SUV concept. But as the spyshots obtained by Autoexpress clearly show, this car is no offroader and is clearly inspired by the original 1970s Lagonda, from its sloping nose to angular rear pillars, small headlights and understated grille. When contacted by the publication to confirm the validity of the images, an Aston Martin representative said: "I can confirm that this is one of a bespoke series of coach built cars and as we've said before, much is possible through Q by Aston Martin -- including bespoke offerings, just like CC100 -- this is another example. We cannot say any more at this time." Nevertheless, the finished Lagonda is expected to be officially revealed before the end of this year, either at the Paris motor show in September or in LA in November. Source: Relaxnews
