Junot Diaz's "This Is How You Lose Her" and Dave Eggers' "A Hologram for the King" were nominated for the National Book Award in New York Wednesday. The novels were nominated in the fiction category along with Louise Erdrich's "The Round House," Ben Fountain's "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk" and Kevin Powers' "The Yellow Birds," the National Book Foundation announced. Shortlisted in the non-fiction category are Katherine Boo's "Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity," Robert A. Caro's "The Passage of Power: The Years of Lyndon Johnson, Volume 4," Domingo Martinez's "The Boy Kings of Texas" and the late Anthony Shadid's "House of Stone: A Memoir of Home, Family, and a Lost Middle East." The poetry nominees are David Ferry's "Bewilderment: New Poems and Translations," Cynthia Huntington's "Heavenly Bodies," Tim Seibles' "Fast Animal," Alan Shapiro's "Night of the Republic" and Susan Wheeler's "Meme." Up for the prize for young people's literature are William Alexander's "Goblin Secrets," Carrie Arcos' "Out of Reach," Patricia McCormick's "Never Fall Down," Eliot Schrefer's "Endangered" and Steve Sheinkin's "Bomb: The Race to Build -- and Steal -- the World's Most Dangerous Weapon." The winners are to be announced Nov. 14 in New York.
