More than 50 underprivileged children took part in a multicultural Iftar on Monday night at an event organised by Action Care, a U.A.E. educational development organisation.
"Cultures Around the World” featured games and activities for children from the Red Crescent Society and Al Hemam Training Centre in Ajman.
"The holy month of Ramadan is traditionally a time for giving and gratitude, and is an opportunity to donate time to bring cheer and joy to those that need it most – our underprivileged children,” said Asad Badami, managing director of Dial-A-Battery, a roadside car battery rescue service that provided volunteers for the event.
The event introduced children to different cultures through drama, music and interactive gamers, with elements such as giving and "sameness” among people around the world woven into the story.
Cherryn Kelly, general manager of Action Care, a company that conducts educational development programmes throughout the U.A.E. and GCC region, said the initiative was in its sixth year. "We hope that the spirit and essence of Ramadan will stay with us throughout the year.”
The event was held at the Moevenpick hotel in Oud Metha, and featured an obstacle course and piñatas. This was followed by an activity session engaging the children in creating a collage of countries from around the world.
After the Iftar the children received school backpacks containing a lunch box, water bottle and stationery kits.
Volunteers from Dial-A-Battery helped prepare and serve the food to the children as part of the company's philosophy of contributing to the community it serves and operates in.
