Muscat - Arab today

Under the patronage of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Diwan of Royal Court, represented by the Institute of Capability Development (ICD), launched the National Leadership and Competitiveness Programme (NLCP) for the government sector, an initiative by the Public Private Partnership Taskforce (Sharaka).

The programme is an example of the Public-Private Partnership Taskforce’s (Sharaka) ambition to drive people development (leadership, management and professional) in both public and private sectors.

This programme intends to develop those capabilities required by the labour market to unlock cross-sector economic performance and growth in Oman.

Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal bin Saud Al-Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court, said in a press release, "This Programme is only a reflection of the wise vision and insights of His Majesty the Sultan,

where he has on many occasions asserted the need to develop human resources and that people are the cornerstone in the development of any society, which is the goal and purpose of development".

He stressed that the launch of the Programme comes after the success of the National CEO Program initiative in the private sector. In addition, it builds on the Undersecretary programme delivered last September. The PPP Taskforce believes it is essential to continue with such learning initiatives that raise the efficiency of executive leadership in both public and private sectors.

The programme is targeted at the public sector, emphasising its central role in steering future

development. In addition, it aims to align efforts to drive the national agenda, to promote sustainable development and to encourage best practice partnership with the private sector. The National Leadership and Competitiveness Programme for the Undersecretary stream was launched on 24th September 2016 and concluded on 26th

February 2017.

This Programme will contribute to building a community of Omani leaders capable of operating at international levels in the government sector. This will enhance the Sultanate's competitiveness, progress national priorities, and enable the sector to play its role in the social and economic development of the Sultanate.

The programme offers a unique learning experience for the target group of 35 Omani public sector participants. The participant group will comprise Directors General, Assistant Directors General, Advisors, Experts and their equivalents from all the governorates of the Sultanate where priority will be given to those directly related to the business

environment. Participants will undergo a rigorous, transparent and fair selection process. Successful applicants will participate in the 8-month programme, delivered both in Oman and overseas. The learning journey involves face-taught modules comprising classroom and experiential learning, leadership coaching and international study tours. The learning is applied through strategic projects.

The NLCP programme team will provide all relevant information related to the programme application, selection, and learning process at the upcoming press conference.

This will include information about the admissions process, criteria and deadlines for application. The date for the press conference will be announced shortly.
