A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale, hit the Fiji Islands region at 6.34 am today, Bernama quoted the Malaysian Meteorological Department as saying.
It said in a statement that the epicentre of the quake was 318km northeast of Laucala, Fiji, and 7,336km southeast Semporna, Sabah.
The quake did not pose any tsunami threat, it added.
