
Mexico and the United States are preparing to release a total of 130 million cubic meters of water into the Colorado River to restore its delta and help preserve species associated with it, the Mexican government said Friday, according to dpa.The water was set to be released from the Morelos Dam in the Mexican state of Baja California, on the US border, by May 18.The release will be monitored to assess its impact on the area’s hydrology, flora and fauna.The environmental organization The Nature Conservancy (TNC), which is part of a coalition to protect and restore the Colorado River delta, described the move as "a historic, unprecedented event.
