Earthquake measuring 6.6 rattles Indonesia

A strong earthquake felt in Indonesia Saturday morning was measured at a magnitude 6.6 by seismologists in the United States, a U.S. agency said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the scene and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said there did not appear any risk of a tidal wave. The US Geological Survey said in a written statement the quake was centered near the north coast of Papua, Indonesia, about 51 miles south-southeast of the town of Manokwari in Irian Jaya. The shaking began around 10:17 a.m. Indonesia time and was followed by a sturdy 5.8 aftershock, the USGS said.
