
An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale shook Southeast Malang, East Java, on Monday at 9.13 am local time, according a spokesman of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB). The quakes epicenter was located at 9,16 degrees southern latitude and 113 degrees eastern longitude at a depth of 10 km, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, the head of the BNPBs Data and Information Center, said on Monday. The epicenter is in the Indian Ocean, around 112 km Southeast Malang, East Java, 114 km Southwest Lumajang, East Java, 130 km Southwest Jember, East Java, and 202 km Southeast Surabaya, he said. The tremor lasted for around three to five seconds and forced a number of people to rush out of buildings in panic, but it did not cause any damage
