At least three people were killed as Tropical Storm Washi (local name Sendong) struck southern Philippines, local disaster officials said Friday. Dennis Tenorio, a provincial disaster officer, said an 80-year- old woman, 30-year-old man and a young boy were drowned to death when a river overflowed, causing flashfloods, in the township of Dipolog.Around 300 families have evacuated from their homes due to widespread flooding. The storm made landfall in the vicinity of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur Friday afternoon, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.
