Lindsey Vonn has returned to the ski slopes nine months after knee surgery, the US downhill queen posting a picture of herself on Instagram on Thursday.
"After a looong 9 months I'm back on snow!!" Vonn wrote. "It was definitely worth the wait!! cool videos to come #iloveskiing."
Vonn underwent major knee surgery in January after re-injuring her surgically repaired right knee, missing the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
The 2010 Olympic downhill gold medallist and four-time World Cup champion told the New York Times recently she would train in Austria this week and was targeting a return to racing at the World Cup races in Lake Louise, Canada, in December.
The alpine season will be highlighted by the 2015 World Championships, which will be held in February in Vonn's backyard of Beaver Creek, Colorado.
"A lot of people don't think I will be back," Vonn told the New York Times. "That's fine. The other girls are probably feeling pretty comfortable without me out there.
"When I do come back I think they'll see that they can't be comfortable anymore."
Vonn, who has 59 World Cup race victories to her credit, badly injured her right knee while competing in a super-G at the 2013 World Championships.
After surgery and a lengthy layoff, Vonn returned to World Cup competition at Lake Louise in December of 2013. But by that time she had already re-injured her knee and opted for further surgery in January.
