Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson played in Sunday's NFL victory at Detroit and denied the illness that put his participation in doubt was caused by chewing tobacco.
Peterson, already dealing with a finger injury, was listed on Saturday night as "questionable" for the game because of illness.
Fox broadcaster Chris Myers said Peterson had told him he was ill after swallowing the juice from his chewing tobacco during the team plane's bumpy landing in Detroit.
But after the win, Peterson said it was eating shrimp that made him sick.
"I'm surprised they said that," Peterson, nursing a wad of tobacco in his cheek, told reporters. "I've been dipping for 10 years, so that would never happen."
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said he'd been told nothing about a chewing tobacco mishap after Peterson vomited on Saturday.
"That's not what he told me," Zimmer said. "He told me he thinks he ate some bad shrimp."
