One of Britain’s leading racehorse trainers, who guided Best Mate to a trio of Cheltenham Gold Cup wins, has announced her retirement. Henrietta Knight, who ran more than 700 winners since 1989 from her base in Oxfordshire, England, says she is giving up her trainer’s license to spend more time with her husband after he suffered a stroke last year. The 65-year-old Knight says “I have been incredibly lucky to have experienced some wonderful moments since I first began training in 1989.” Best Mate won the Gold Cup one of the most prestigious jumps races on the British horse racing calendar from 2002-04 to match the achievement of Arkle.
