Villarreal have signed veteran striker Walter Pandiani to aid their bid for an immediate return to the Primera Division. Pandiani has already passed his medical and put pen to paper on a one-year contract with the Yellow Submarine and will be presented tomorrow. The 36-year-old former Uruguay international has played for a host of teams during his career, including Deportivo La Coruna, Real Mallorca, Espanyol and Osasuna in Spain, Birmingham in England and Penarol in his homeland. Villarreal suffered a shock relegation from the top flight last season having finished fourth the previous campaign. They have picked up four points from their opening two Segunda Division matches.
