Rome - ANSA

Alessandro Del Piero says he'll still cheer for his former Juventus team even though he will now play for Australian club Sydney FC. "This will be a period of major changes, but I will continue to cheer for the team with which I spent 19 years," Del Piero said Wednesday after announcing he has signed with the Sydney club for two years. After Juventus let the 19-year veteran go in June, Del Piero ruled out playing for another team in Italy. Instead, he said Wednesday, he is on his way to a new adventure in Australia. He thanked all of his supporters, his close friends, and family. And while he wouldn't name names, Del Piero said he had been courted by soccer squads all over the world, and "thoroughly analyzed" the many offers he said he received. "It has been fun to jump from one place to another in my mind, but now the jumping is over and my new adventure begins," said Del Piero, adding he will now be 'Australian'. During his time with the Turin side, Del Piero helped them to win six Serie A titles, an Italian Cup, a Champions League crown and an Intercontinental Cup. He also led the team's return to the top flight after the 2006 involvement in the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal and helped Italy win the 2006 World Cup.
