Lytham St.Annes - UPI

Brandt Snedeker fired a 6-under-par 64 Friday and jumped into the clubhouse lead during second-round play at the 141st British Open. Snedeker finished his second bogey-free round and is at 10-under 130 for the tournament. He had birdies on three of the four par 3s Friday. He was four strokes ahead of first-round leader Adam Scott, who was even par through his first seven holes Friday. Paul Lawrie, even after eight holes in the second round, was third at 5-under. Zach Johnson (1 over after five) and Graeme McDowell (1 under after four) were tied at 4-under while Ernie Els and Tiger Woods, both even through the early stages of their second rounds, were at 3-under for the tournament. Snedeker's round was all the more remarkable because no other golfer Friday was better than 3-under on the day. He opened his round with a birdie at the par-3 first and finished the first side with three birdies in the last four holes. That included a 2 at the par-3 ninth. Snedeker added birdies at 11 and 12 -- another par 3 -- and then has six consecutive pars. The early projected cut was 2-over. Among those well beyond that was Phil Mickelson, who was 8-over Friday and 11-over 151 for the tournament.
