The open air swimming pool in Nice where Olympic champion Camille Muffat trained is to be named after the swimmer who was among 10 people killed in a helicopter crash in Argentina this week, the town hall confirmed on Wednesday.
The idea of honouring the Nice native gained momentum on Wednesday after being promoted on a Facebook page created by locals in honour of Muffat, who won the 400 metres freestyle gold at the 2012 London Olympics as well as the silver in the 200 metres freestyle.
Portraits of 25-year-old Muffat, who retired from competition in July 2014, are also to be placed in all swimming pools in the Riviera town.
Nice's open air swimming pool, dedicated exclusively to high-level competition, was put at the disposition of coach Fabrice Pellerin and his athletes in late 2013 with a view to the 2016 Rio Games.
