Poor weather continued in Friday's second practice session for the Spanish MotoGP at Jerez, but conditions were more stable than the morning and all 21-riders took to the track. Avintia CRT rider Ivan Silva was officially credited with the fastest lap of the day, thanks to a lap time in the dryer morning session, when only eight riders recorded a time due to the mixed conditions. This afternoon's FP2 offered a more consistently wet surface, meaning Silva's best time went unchallenged, but greater track action as riders were able to work on a wet set-up. Ducati's Valentino Rossi - who fell after charging through the field in the early stages of last year's damp race - helped erase his Qatar nightmare by leading for much of the session, before being surpassed by home hero Dani Pedrosa with ten minutes remaining. The Repsol Honda rider, not known for his wet weather pace, finished the session 0.660sec ahead of Rossi, who underlined his and Ducati's potential should poor conditions continue - as forecast - for the rest of the weekend. Yamaha's world championship leader and last year's Jerez winner Jorge Lorenzo was third fastest, but over one-second from countryman Pedrosa. Reigning double world champion Casey Stoner (Honda) was fourth, with Rossi's team-mate Nicky Hayden completing a top five covered by 1.474sec. Andrea Dovizioso finished as the leading satellite rider in sixth for Monster Yamaha Tech 3, with Alvaro Bautista (Gresini Honda), Cal Crutchlow (Tech 3 Yamaha), Ben Spies (Yamaha) and Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda) following closely behind. Then came the best of the CRT riders, with Randy de Puniet eleventh (+3.375s) for Aspar, then fellow Aprilia rider and MotoGP rookie Mattia Pasini twelfth for Speed Master. Satellite Ducati riders Karel Abraham and Hector Barbra were beaten by the pair of privateers, with Colin Edwards - the top CRT at the Qatar Grand Prix - just behind them in 15th.Final practice takes place on Saturday morning, with qualifying in the afternoon.
