Nancy defender Massadio Haidara has said that he is "relieved" the injury he suffered against Marseille on Sunday is not as serious as first feared. The France U-21 full-back landed awkwardly after an aerial challenge with Jordan Ayew during his side's 1-0 defeat at the Stade Marcel-Picot and was left unconscious on the pitch. After several minutes' treatment, Haidara was carried off on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital, before being discharged yesterday evening. And he told the club's official website: "I am relieved because it was not as bad as we feared. I still feel pain in my neck and my back but I will rest well and I hope to return as soon as possible." Quoted in L'Equipe on his recollection of the incident, he added: "I felt myself losing consciousness on the pitch. I began to come round in the dressing room, just before I got in the ambulance. I couldn't move my limbs. According to the doctors, it was because my spinal cord had been affected." He was released from hospital after tests showed "nothing abnormal", according to club doctor Frederic Muel. No date has been set for the 19-year-old's return to action, but he will be assessed in 10 days before a decision is made on whether he can return to training. Muel said: "He must rest completely until next Tuesday. This is a reasonable timescale in the first instance. He will then be subject to a reassessment before we consider things further." From : Fifa
