It might look like a synchronised long jump competition, but this isn’t a new Olympic sport... it’s the FIFA World Cup™ of 1990. The only athletics involved is of the hurdling variety, with West Germany striker Jurgen Klinsmann and his marker, Predrag Spasic, taking evasive action to clear Yugoslavia’s goalkeeper Tomislav Ivkovic in their opening match of the tournament. But while Klinsmann was thwarted on this occasion, he went on to find the net in a 4-1 win for the Germans in Milan’s San Siro Stadium. It was to be the first of three goals for the striker at Italy 1990, a competition which ended with him clutching football’s most coveted prize. From Fifa
