French Tennis Federation chairman Jean Gachassin said Friday that he would not be seeking a third term when his current mandate runs out in February, 2017.
"This will be my last term," the former French rugby international who first took the job, one of the most powerful in French sports, in 2009 told the Depeche du Midi newspaper.
"In February, 2017 when the election for president will be held I will be close to being 76 years old. That can't be serious. There is always a right time to hand over the reins. That is the only reason for which I am standing down."
Asked who might be in line to take over from him, Gachassin demurred saying only that there was already some movement behind the scene.
Former top player and French Davis Cup captain Guy Forget has been among those touted as a possible successor.
