Former British Open champion David Duval was enjoying a sparkling third round on Sunday as the weather-affected championship resumed under cloudy conditions at St Andrews.
The Florida veteran hasn't won a tournament since winning the 2001 Open by three shots at Royal Lytham, but he suddenly appeared on the leaderboard after seven birdies through 14 holes to leave him six under par and four shots behind leader Dustin Johnson.
The 43-year-old Duval fell from grace following his Open win and struggled with injuries and form as he slumped down the world rankings, hitting a low in 2012 when he missed 13 of 17 cuts on Tour.
South Carolina's Johnson maintains a one shot lead over Englishman Danny Willet with both men set to begin their rounds at 3:00p.m. local time (1400GMT).
Scotland's Paul Lawrie is alone in third a further shot back and a group of six players are three shots off the lead on seven under.
One of those players is Scot Marc Warren who will be Lawrie's playing partner in a pairing set to attract fervent home support from the local crowds.
Also in the group on seven under are former world number one Adam Scott, who, like much of the field, enjoyed a day off on Saturday, with the high winds wiping out more than 10 hours of play and forcing a Monday finish at the Open for only the second time in history.
Americans Robert Streb and former Masters winner Zach Johnson, South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen, the last man to win at St Andrews in 2010, and Australian Jason Day complete the players lying three strokes back.
Texan Jordan Spieth, striving to become only the second man in history after Ben Hogan in 1953 to win the first three majors of the season, will start on five under.
