Contador and UCI reach deal over 2.5 mn euros fine

Spanish rider Alberto Contador has reached agreement with the International Cycling Union over a hefty fine he was ordered to pay, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced on Thursday. "CAS has been informed of an amicable agreement reached betweeen the UCI and Alberto Contador and has therefore officially concluded arbitration," the court said. Earlier in the year, CAS upheld Contador's suspension for failing a dope test during the 2010 Tour de France, stripped him of his victory in that race and all other titles he won in 2011, including his Tour of Spain success. The UCI then demanded he pay a fine of 2.485 million euros ($3.24 million), based on the earnings he declared for the year. Contador returned to competition in August this year and in September won the Tour of Spain.
