Olympic champion Li Xuerui of China was eliminated in the second round of the Badminton Malaysia Open here on Thursday.

However, her fellow Chinese Wang Shixian and Wang Yihan sailed through to the quarterfinals, with Wang Shixian taking on Tai and Wang Yihan facing top seed Carolina Marin of Spain.

In the men's singles, Chinese Lin Dan, Chen Long and home favorite Lee Chong Wei all made the last eight with ease. Chen will face teammate Tian Houwei in the quarters. And Lin and Lee will meet in the semis if both win on Friday.

In the men's doubles, two Chinese pairs - Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan and Chai Biao/Hong Wei - made it to the quarterfinals, while three Chinese pairs were among the last eight in women's doubles.

In the mixed doubles, top seed Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei became the only pair from China to secure a victory in the second round, as their teammates Xu Chen/Ma Jin lost to local pair Peng Soon Chan and Liu Ying Goh.
