Dubai - Arabstoday
China refused to allow anyone to get anywhere close to their domination in world diving with a clean sweep on the final day of the Fina/Midea Diving World Series at the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Sports Complex here yesterday. The Chinese, who had claimed all four gold at the end of opening day on Friday, took the top spots in all of yesterday's four events to end the competition with a clean sweep. Barring a close contest with Britain's Tom Daley and American David Boudia, multiple world champion Bo Qui clinched the eighth and final gold. Leading the Chinese was world champion Wu Minxia as she added a second gold to her overnight top spot in the women's 3-metre Synchro Springboard that she had won with He Zi — who got nudged out for the silver on the last dive of the women's 3-metre Springboard yesterday. There was no such drama in the men's 3-metre Synchro Springboard as the Chinese pair of Kai Qin — bronze medalist on Friday in the 3-metre Springboard — and Yutong Luo led from start to finish in the six dives to take the gold medal with 452.58 points, ahead of the chasing pair of Yahel Castillo and Daniel Alejandro Islas from Mexico with 427.38. The Ukrainian duo of Oleksyi Prygorov and 10m Synchro Platform silver medalist Oleksandr Gorshkovozov did challenge for the second place midway, but had to finally settle for the bronze with a score of 423.87 points. Ruolin Chen also helped herself to a second gold here when she teamed up with Hao Wang to win the women's 10-metre Synchro Platform ahead of silver medalists Rinong Pandelela Pamg and Yee Mun Leong of Malaysia and Canada's Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion. Multiple World Champion Bo Qui was the only one who looked to lose out in the final event of the night when he trailed Great Britain's Tom Daley at the end of the first dive in the men's 10-metre Platform. But the Chinese pulled away with a tremendous effort of 94.50 in his second attempt to lead the field.
