Australia defeated Ireland by seven wickets in a group B match of the World Twenty20 tournament in Colombo on Wednesday. Australia restricted Ireland to 123-7 and then surpassed the modest total in the 16th over at the Premadasa stadium. The West Indies are the third team in the group, from which two will qualify for the Super Eights round. Brief scores: Ireland 123-7 in 20 overs (K. O'Brien 35, N. O'Brien 20, E. Joyce 16, S.
