Johannesburg - Arabstoday
AmaZulu remained bottom of the South African Premiership Tuesday, a month after being praised by Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. The Durban club fell 2-0 at KwaZulu Natal rivals Maritzburg United in a second round match having started the league campaign with a humiliating 6-0 home loss to Kaizer Chiefs. Ferguson lauded AmaZulu after the Red Devils managed only a 1-0 victory at AmaZulu last month in the first game of a pre-English Premier League season world tour. But the gallant performance against United was far from the mind of Swedish coach Roger Palmgren as he stormed off the field at the final whistle, shunning an obligatory TV interview. Zimbabwean Cuthbert Malajila scored both Maritzburg goals in the second half, tapping in a rebound after Mbongeni Mzimela spilled a shot, and scooping the ball over the goalkeeper for the second. Free State Stars had Zambia 2012 Africa Cup of Nations-winning goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene to thank for a 2-1 victory at promoted Chippa United in wet and cold Cape Town that lifted them to the top of the table. Mweene made a series of superb first-half saves while Togo stars also played key roles with Dove Wome giving Stars the lead and a shot from compatriot Sadat Ouro-Akoriko leading to the late Moeketsi Mvula match-winner.
