Former Indian Test star Wasim Jaffer, dashing Bangladesh player Shariar Nafees and Rana Naved ul-Harun from Pakistan, will be seen in action in the two-day 8-overs a side cricket festival to be organised by Mumbai-based Quba Media Works (QMW) and Purple Patch, a local forum affiliated to Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), on September 13 and 14. The two-day cricket mela will feature 12 corporate teams in a novel E8 format. The corporate tournament will also have a few more Test stars in the knockout stage of the tournament. On the second day, each of the semifinalists will feature the three Test players who have played with some repute for their national teams. All three, Jaffer, Nafees and Naved, are excited to be part of the event and shared their experience about a fun-filled day for families. Jaffer said: “I have played the Twenty20 format in the IPL, but this will be something exciting. It will be good to have a great hit out in an eight over format. I cannot wait to have a go in this eight-over format.’’ Naved echoed somewhat similar feelings. “Pakistan and India have a huge fan base here in Qatar. It will be a great opportunity to show them what we are capable of.’’ For Nafees, it is a new uncharted territory, but he is excited to be part of the unique cricket mela. “Coming from Bangladesh it is a great honour to showcase what we are capable of doing in such formats.” Galaxy Sports is the official sports store and Air Arabia is the official airline.
