Andy Murray took over the ATP number one ranking for the first time in his career when semi-final opponent Milos Raonic retired injured before their match at the Paris Masters on Saturday. 
The Scot who first rose to second on the ranking list in 2009 will head into the World Tour Finals starting in a week in London atop the table as a career-long quest finally bears fruit. 
Murray dethroned Novak Djokovic who lost Friday in Paris against Marin Cilic and had topped the bill for 122 weeks. 
Murray, winner of his last three events, has been on a roll since winning his second Wimbledon title in July. then backing it up with a second Olympic gold medal before his autumn title breakaway, dpa reported. 
He owns seven trophies this season and will bid for an eighth on Sunday against John Isner at the Bercy arena. 
The American earned his first win over Cilic after six straight losses, posting a 6-4, 6-3 semi-final win.
