Bethesda - AFP

Americans Gary Woodland and Brad Adamonis were added to the field for the 111th US Open golf championship on Monday, completing the 156-player field for the second major event of the year. Woodland was the only qualifier under a new exemption category added this year by the US Golf Association adding any player within the top 50 in the world rankings on the Monday before the start of the tournament. Woodland, ranked 40th in the ratings list released Monday, captured his first US PGA title in March at the Transitions Championship. He will play alongside compatriots Ryan Palmer and Jeff Overton in the first two rounds. Adamonis was an alternate who claimed a second spot that was held open in case another player cracked the top 50 on Monday. Since none other unqualified player did, he advanced after rounds of 66 and 71 in sectional qualifying last week at nearby Rockville. Adamonis will be grouped with fellow American Kirk Triplett and Australian Greg Chalmers in the first and second rounds.
