Weightlifter tests positive for steroids

Olympic weightlifting medalist Nurcan Taylan has tested positive for steroids, Turkish officials said. Taylan, who became Turkey's first female gold medalist when she won in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, faces up to a 4-year ban from competition, which would keep her out of the 2012 London Olympics, Today's Zaman reported Tuesday. Taylan had protested the results of a previous steroid test by the International Weightlifting Federation. The second blood test came back positive Monday, the newspaper said.
