Roberta Vinci defeated Jelena Jankovic 7-5, 6-3 in the finals of the Texas Open Friday to win her first tour event of the year. It was Vinci's seventh career title and it came in the final tuneup for next week's U.S. Open. Jankovic had been seeking her first championship in two years after being a runner-up this summer in Birmingham, England. She then lost in the opening round of Wimbledon to Kim Clijsters. Vinci had lost in each of her previous three meetings with Jankovic. Jankovic will be seeded No. 30 for the U.S. Open and will take on Kateryna Bondarenko in the first round. Vinci will be in the same quarter of the draw as Jankovic and as the No. 20 seed will face Urszula Radwanska to open the event.
