Steve Stricker grabbed a five-stoke lead thanks to a 10-under-par 63 in Saturday's second round of the season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions. He finished 36 holes at 15-under-par 131, putting him well in front of Webb Simpson, who fired a second straight 68 and ended the day alone in second place at minus-10. Stricker recorded an eagle and eight birdies Saturday, missing the Kapalua course record by a single stroke. Moving into third place at 9-under 137 was Kevin Na (9-under 64), who logged back-to-back eagles on 17 and 18. First-round leader and defending champion Jonathan Byrd (71) and Martin Laird (70) finished knotted in fourth place at minus-8.
