Sri Lanka were 118-3 off 22.5 overs chasing a 251-run target when play was called off due to rain in Pallekele. They were ahead of the D/L par score of 104 at that stage. Skipper Mahela Jayawardene was unbeaten on 43 with Angelo Mathews (seven not out). Captain Ross Taylor (72), Bradley-John Watling (55), opener Rob Nicol (46) and James Franklin (35 not out) were the main scorers for New Zealand, while fast bowler Lasith Malinga bagged two wickets for Sri Lanka.
