The Boston Red Sox announced Friday they have signed David Ortiz to a two-year contract. Ortiz was eligible to become a free agent, but agreed to stay with the Red Sox for a reported $26 million guaranteed. He played only 90 games last season due to a strained right Achilles tendon, but he still hit 23 home runs and drove in 60. His .318 batting average was his best in 5 years. Ortiz has been with the Red Sox since 2003 and has been a member of the American League All-Star team eight times while with the Red Sox. He will turn 36 later this month.
