Park: 4th freestyle event at US grand prix

South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan won the 200-meter freestyle event at the Santa Clara International Grand Prix Saturday, raising his golds at the event to four and brightening his outlook for the upcoming London Olympics. Park, who won the 2008 Olympic gold in the 400-meter freestyle and a silver in the 200-meter freestyle, finished in a time of 1.46.88 in the men's 200-meter freestyle event at the US grand prix under way in Santa Clara, Calif. On the first two days of the Santa Clara grand prix, Park had won the 800-meter, 100-meter and 400-meter freestyle events. The time for the 100-meter race does not qualify him to participate in the Olympics 100-meter event, but Park said he used the race to check his pace for the 200-meter competition. With the London Olympics less than two months away, Park's successive wins at the U.S. grand prix have further brightened his outlook for another Olympic gold medal, sports officials and experts say. Park will briefly return to Seoul before completing his last-stage training in Australia and heading to London via France, they said.
