Waikato/Bay of Plenty have finally broken their drought in the ANZ netball championship, notching up their first win of the season against the Canterbury Tactix 61-52 in Rotorua tonight. For a while in the third period and early on in the fourth, it looked as though they were going to blow another opportunity, as the Tactix overturned a 24-32 halftime deficit to close within two goals of the star-studded Magic side on three occasions. However, inspired by some sterling work at the back by Leana de Bruin, the Magic went on a scoring spree over the last 10 minutes for a nine-goal win. The Magic now lies eighth on the trans-Tasman league table.
