Kris Boyd supplied the go-ahead goal in the second half Monday and the Portland Timbers bounced Philadelphia 3-1 in the MLS season opener for both teams. Boyd scored in the 66th minute, flicking the ball past Zac MacMath for a 2-1 Portland lead after receiving a cross into the center from midfielder Kalif Alhassan. The Timbers spotted the Union 1-0 lead on a free kick from Gabriel Gomez in the 51st, but responded with the equalizer 3 minutes later when MacMath fumbled Andrew Jean-Baptiste's header. Alhassan added an insurance tally for the Timbers (1-0-0). MacMath finished with four saves for the Union (0-1-0).
