Gstaad - UPI

Peter Luczak survived a late charge by Alexander Sadecky and claimed a first-round win Monday at the Gstaad Open tennis tournament in Switzerland. Luczak converted his third match point opportunity for a 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Sadecky and earned the right to go against No. 2-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka in the second round. The tournament's top four seeds, including Wawrinka and No. 1-seeded Nicolas Almagro, received first-round byes. Luczak won six of seven games in building a 4-1 lead in the third set and had a pair of match points when serving at 5-4. But Sadecky came back and forced the tiebreaker, which Luczak took by winning five of the last six points. Also Monday, Igor Andreev advanced and Andreas Haider-Maurer and Denis Istomin defeated qualifiers to reach the second round. Andreev needed just more than hour to top Mischa Zverev 6-3, 6-2. Andreev didn't face a break point over nine service games. Haider-Maurer was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Yann Marti, hitting six aces and landing 70 percent of his first serves. Haider-Maurer won 76 percent of the points on serve and lost just three points in four first-set games serving. Istomin got past Martin Fischer 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 despite losing his serve twice in the third set. He'll meet No 3-seeded Mikhail Youzhny in the second round.
