Local favorite Stanislas Wawrinka tumbled in a first-round upset Tuesday at the Swiss Indoors tennis event, falling to Russian veteran Nikolay Davydenko. The Russian needed a pair of tie-breakers but still managed to bounce the fourth-seeded Wawrinka 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-3) at St. Jakobshalle in Basel. Elsewhere in the draw, No 6 Mikhail Youzhny of Russia breezed to a 6-0, 6-2 rout of Australian Bernard Tomic and American Brian Baker rallied to overcome Czech qualifier Radek Stepanek 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3. Meanwhile, South Africa's Kevin Anderson bested Jarkko Nieminen of Finland 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, while Australia's Matthew Ebden and Swiss wild card Marco Chiudinelli each logged Day 2 victories.
