Javelin thrower Barbora Spotakova was named the Czech Athlete of the Year for the fifth time in a row, the Czech Athletics Association (CAS) announced at an award-giving ceremony held on Saturday night. Hurdler Zuzana Hejnova finished second, followed by javelin thrower Vitezslav Vesely in the third place. Spotakova, 31, won the gold medal of javelin at London Olympic Games and defended her 2008 triumph from Beijing. She is also the world record holder. Hejnova won a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles race at the London Olympics. Vesely won the European championship and the Diamond League and he was fourth in London. Jan Zelezny, world and Olympic champion, the current coach of Czech javelin throwers, became the coach of the year again.
